Student Review: No Time Like the Future

No Time Like the Future by Michael J. Fox

 

This book is a must read if you're a fan of Michael J. Fox like I am.  This is Michael's fourth book he has written.  This book is about how his Parkinson’s Disease has progressed throughout the years. One of the things he talks about is how his family has been so supported through his illness. Michael shows in this book that having a positive attitude is everything.

Student Review, The Life We Bury

The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens. 

 

"The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens is a riveting mystery book that has many surprises in store. It follows the life of a college student, Joe Talbert, as he does his best to navigate an English assignment. The assignment brings him right to the room of Carl Iverson, a dying man that spent most of his life in prison for murder. At first, Joe is focused on completing the assignment and receiving his grade, however, he finds himself emerged in the story of Carl Iverson and the young girl he was incarcerated for murdering, all while Iverson claims innocence. Joe starts to believe there is more to the story and attempts to get to the bottom of it. This is an awesome book and definitely a must read if you like mysteries that will keep you on the edge of your seat."

Student Review: Dread Nation

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

When the dead start to rise and walk the battlefields of the Civil War, the U.S. government believes they are best left to be handled by the most marginalized groups in the country. Under the Native and Negro Reeducation Act, Jane McKeene must attend a combat school to sharpen her shambler-killing skills. This path would create opportunity for a black woman in the 19th century, that is until Jane is suddenly embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy.  Dread Nation is a rewritten history novel perfect for the young adult landscape. Jane reflects what we love most about zombie features - the willingness to survive in a world that is unsurvivable. Readers will be swept away into the compelling writing style and the moments that move them emotionally. What I love most about this novel is the cast of characters that is not only diverse, but also led by strong women. If you’d like to rethink the horrific possibilities of history, pick up Dread Nation.

Summer/Fall Student Technology Resources

Great news!

A limited number of internet hot spots are available for students to checkout for the fall 2021 term at no cost. To request a hot spot please complete this short form by Sunday, May 9. Some hot spots may also be available for students registered for classes over summer term on a first-come, first-served basis. You can place a hold by e-mailing library@cvtc.edu or calling 715-833-6285. 

A limited number of other devices such as laptops and iPads can be reserved and checked out from the library for 30 days at a time depending on availability. 

You will be notified the week of May 10 whether or not you are eligible. Be sure your phone is able to accept voicemails or to check your CVTC student e-mail during that week.
