National Open Education Week: March 1-5, 2021

National Open Education Week (OE Week) is an opportunity for actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education worldwide. It is also a time to reflect on the work that you, your colleagues, and CVTC has done to support student affordability.

During spring 2021, 48 faculty and 146 courses used open or affordable resources at CVTC, saving students thousands of dollars while also enhancing equity, and supporting persistence, completion, and overall student success.

For more information on OE Week, visit https://www.openeducationweek.org/. To learn more about open education and how you can get started, visit the library OER help guide or register for an upcoming professional development opportunity.

Watch our student and faculty talk about the benefits of OER in this video.

In addition check out the video of Peter, Interim Associate Dean of General Education and Holly, Dean of Academic Development and Services, talking about OER at CVTC.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Collection

Last summer there were several events that brought social justice issues to the forefront of people’s minds.  America spent the summer protesting and speaking out against these issues. Many people have long thought about what they could do to help end systemic racism, and some thought for the first time they wanted to learn more about what they could do.  Several books on the topic leaped to the top of the best seller lists, and many other books have been published about the topic.

CVTC has long made it  part of their mission to embrace the ideas of diversity, equity and inclusion.  To help support CVTC’s efforts library staff have put together a collection of resources that are available to students, faculty and staff. These items range from educational non-fiction items to popular books and movies, including the book How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram Kendi.  This book was featured in the Diversity Department’s fall book club available to students and staff.    There are also some great materials in our audiobook, children’s and young adult sections.  In addition to these traditional library materials there are also many digital resources ranging from e-books to items that can be accessed through the Wisconsin Academic Digital Library and Overdrive.  You can learn more about all of these resources by visiting the Social Justice Library Research Guide
